On Wednesday 5th June, our athletics team attended the Quad Kids Athletics Tournament at Winchester Athletics Stadium.
The competition was a level 2 qualifier for the Hampshire School Games so the children were ready for some very competitive races. The competition was a group event, meaning each team member was working to achieve as many points as they could for the team.
They competed in 4 events each: the 75m sprint, Long jump, Vortex javelin and 600m. All of the children were very excited to be competing and approached the events with a positive attitude. They warmed up well and we had a fantastic start to the competition with some speedy performances in the 75m sprint. The sprint was closely followed by the long jump; where all the children jumped over 180cm with some reaching 197cm! This put the team in a great position moving into the throwing event.
Soon after, the children competed in the Vortex Javelin event. They all continued to keep their energy levels high and really pushed themselves to throw as far as they could.
The final individual event was the 600m, once again the children pulled out all of the stops to impress with their distance running.
It was a tense wait for the results and we were all very excited to find out where we had come as we all knew if we managed to place first or second we would be selected for the Hampshire Games. We held our breath as the positions were announced and we managed to achieve the win!
Congratulations to the team!
