Earlier this week, Jean MaGrory from Hampshire County Council, came in to school to talk to the Eco group about air pollution and the Air Quality Project which St Bede has been invited to take part in. She talked to the children about air pollution, in particular nitrogen dioxide NO2), and the effect it has on health. Each year, in the UK, 40,000 premature deaths are caused by air pollution. The air quality project aims to find ways to improve the air quality both around the school grounds and in Winchester in general.
Please may we use this project as a timely reminder to families collecting children from school by car, not to leave their cars idling. We have a number of children at the school with severe asthma and the quality of air in the locality has a direct impact on their health. Thank you for your understanding.
