A few months ago, St Bede entered a competition to design the T-shirts for the Hampshire School Games. The winner of the competition would have their design printed on the official T-Shirts for the Hampshire Games (that are worn by over 3,000 children at the event.) Lots of schools from across Hampshire entered and we got the news that not one, but two St Bede designs were chosen! Saskia and Phoebe had produced such wonderful designs that they wanted to combine the two to create this years T-Shirt. What a great achievement girls!
The excitement didn’t stop there, part of the prize for winning the competition was to have two athletes from the Hampshire Talented Athlete scheme visit the school to talk about their personal sporting journeys. Jake Farren – Price (GB sailing) and Kanya Mtshweni (a top track athlete) came to deliver an exciting and inspirational assembly which helped the children to see what was possible with hard work, perseverance and determination. They talked about not giving up and overcoming hurdles to achieve their best and about how they had worked hard to be selected for international competitions. Not only this, they both talked about their aspirations for the future and how they were going to use their strength, determination and courage to reach their ultimate goal of Olympic Games selection. The children were excited to be able to ask questions and were inspired by the commitment and enthusiasm of both athletes. Following the assembly, the St Bede Athletics team (who have qualified to compete at the Hampshire Games) had a chance to do some warm up drills and skills with Hampshire Talented Athlete Kanya Mtshweni.
