Last week, children from Band 2 assisted a local group of historians and community volunteers in an exciting archaeology project to discover hidden information about Winchester’s Hyde Abbey.
Despite some rather unhelpful rain, the children were fantastic representatives for the school and didn’t let it dampen their spirits! Helping the archaeologists, they dug and excavated in real trenches whilst also carefully cleaning any artefacts discovered.
This was a wonderful opportunity to deepen the children’s learning following their local area study of Winchester and gave them a first-hand insight into how our knowledge of the past in constructed.
Did you know that ancient stones from Hyde Abbey were repurposed into walls and houses throughout Hyde? Why not see if you can discover as many as we did!
