Well done to our Kwik Cricket team who took part in the Mixed Kwik Cricket Tournament held at Hursley Park Cricket Club earlier in the month.
It was a beautiful day and the children were very well prepared with excellent coaching and team support from Mr Sandercock who kindly gave up his time to be with us for the day.
The first round of matches were our ‘pool’ matches, we were in pool 1 with 3 other teams all hoping to make it through to the quarter finals. The team got off to a tremendous start with unbelievable catches in the very first innings. We were absolutely flying through the match and managed to get lots of wickets too!
Having won all three matches in the first round, we sailed through to the quarter finals. We played Western 1, who were a strong team and really made us work hard - another wonderful match full of leaps, bounds, one-handed miracle catches and incredibly close wickets. We were through to the semi-final.
The semi-final saw us come up against the team from Knightwood. The children were excited but also a little apprehensive about this match as they had seen the Knightwood team in action during the day.
Following a fantastic team talk from Mr Sandercock, giving everyone the positivity and drive they needed, the team marched onto the pitch to play another superb match. This was an absolute nail biter of a match with all spectators on the edge of their seats. Fielding first, we got off to a fantastic start with incredibly steady and calm bowling and excellent communication and tactics. All the hard work and effort really shone through. It was our turn to bat next. Knowing the Knightwood team were great players, we knew we needed to deliver something special. The first over saw our batters really step up to the mark and hit some incredible shots and show excellent communication skills as to whether to run or not. The game progressed steadily with us all still on the edge of our seats. The bowling and fielding from Knightwood was spectacular and they eventually drove through in the final stages of the match to take the win by the skin of their teeth. What an absolutely fantastic day of cricket!
We were incredibly proud of the way in which the team conducted themselves throughout the day. The children were kind, courteous, positive and encouraging, not only to each other but to the other teams competing too. They represented St. Bede school brilliantly! A very special thank you to Mr Sandercock who coached and mentored the team throughout the day, we couldn’t have done it without you!
