I am sorry to be letting you know that St Bede will remain closed all day tomorrow (Friday 2nd March). The snow is now falling heavily in Winchester and beyond and temperatures are dropping. The Met Office are predicting conditions will deteriorate this afternoon and through the night and we worry that the journey to school tomorrow may be dangerous for pupils and staff, many of whom have a significant distance to travel.
The decision to close the school is not taken lightly, is done jointly by senior staff and governors and takes into consideration advice from weather agencies and the local authority. We believe that school will re-open fully on Monday. We would like to move our Book Week Dress Up Day to this day (Monday 5th March) so that we really come back in style. Weather permitting, we will start the day with a parade of costumes on the school playground at 9.05 a.m.
In the meantime, we hope pupils will enjoy the snowy weather, do bring in pictures of your snow creations or sledging fun to share! Around this, we hope you will also fit in some reading, spelling and maths practise and complete homework that has been set in the week(s) previously. We hope to see you all back at school on Monday morning at 8.55.
We hope that communicating this decision early helps you organise childcare as appropriate for tomorrow. While the decision, and the weather, maybe somewhat inconvenient, the safety of our pupils, parents and staff is always of paramount importance to us. Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.
