St Bede showed real class as they stormed to victory at the R&R schools football tournament on a sunny October afternoon. They started the day off with a creditable 0-0 draw against Foxhills. Alex’s heroic clearance off the line helping them survive against last year’s champions. Then the team really clicked as they went on to win their next game 2-0; Jake and Pippa finishing off great team goals.
That set them up for the rest of the afternoon as the entire squad played with determination and flair. 3-0, 4-0 and 3-0 wins put them into the final. Every player in midfield and attack scored on this run, a statistic that symbolised the real team effort. The final was played against the hosts Hampshire Collegiate and St Bede dominated from the first whistle.
Pressing high up the pitch, their hard work won them multiple chances, only their flying goal keeper kept them in the match. Finally, with two minutes to go, a corner was whipped in, Joe flicked out his heel, and in a spectacular moment of skill combined with a dusting of good luck, kicked the ball right into the top of the net. 1-0 to St Bede and the cup was theirs.
Special mention must go to Emre, Sebby and Charlie who were as solid as a rock in defence all day. Although the team scored 12 goals, they conceded an incredible 0. A well-earned trophy for the cabinet, and all involved should be proud of the exemplary way they represented the school!
