In Year 5, the children have taken part in a local community project called ‘Hyde 900’. The project focuses on the community of Hyde and soldiers who fought in World War 1. The children chose soldiers to research using archived historical information and some children even studied people who once lived at their address or very close by! The children worked in groups and wrote biographies, produced artwork and poetry linked to the project. It has also been lovely sharing stories in class of the children’s family members who were part of WW1 or 2.
To end the project, the children in Year 5 have produced a memorial book that will be presented to the community of Hyde at a Remembrance service at St Bartholomew’s church, on 10th November at 10am. Children from St Bede and their families are welcome to join in this service. It will also be a lovely opportunity to display some war memorial artwork, which children in Year 4 have created in their art lessons this week, linked to the project.
