Year 6 children visit the Houses of Parliament

Way back in September, you may remember us letting you know about Steve Brine (MP), visiting Band 3pupils to share with them his experience of campaigning and elections, ahead of our Year 6 pupils applying for positions of responsibility at St Bede.  The visit, and the process the children went through afterwards, also helped promote our teaching of democracy, one of the fundamental British values.  Mr Brine offered a prize of a tour of the Houses of Parliament, to those children elected head and deputy head boys and girls.

On Wednesday 13th April, the children were given a fabulous tour of the Houses of Parliament and then had a private question and answer session with Mr Brine
in Portcullis House.  The children were a real credit to the school, asking mature and sensible questions and their behaviour, throughout the day was impeccable.

After a picnic lunch on the South Bank, they went on the London Eye demonstrating and developing their knowledge of London and some key landmarks, before catching the train back to Winchester.
