Times Tables Rock Stars @ St. Bede

Welcome to Times Tables Rock Stars!

Times tables are recognised as essential to access many mathematical concepts and under the current National Curriculum all primary school children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x 12 by the end of Year 4.  This year, this knowledge will be assessed at the end of Year 4, by a National online check.

When it comes to times tables, speed AND accuracy are important – the more facts your child remembers, the easier it is for them to complete more complex calculations. Times Table Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme designed to help pupils master the times tables!

This online learning resource can be accessed online via the web address https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/44080

When they first login, your child will choose their own rock star name and design their own avatar before starting to practise.

There are three single player modes to play:

Garage – This is the main mode the children should play. The questions will only come from the times tables the teacher has set for the week. As a pupil starts to answer questions, TT Rock Stars works out which facts they take longer on and will give them more of these questions to answer.

Studio - The questions in the Studio can be anything from 2x2 up to 12x12. TT Rock Stars calculates each the mean speed from their last 10 games in the Studio and translates into a Rock Status.

Sound Check – This game mimics the Multiplication Table Check in England so can be used to help prepare children for this national online check that all pupils complete at the end of Year 4.  There are 25 questions with a 6 second time limit for each question.

There are also three multi-player modes:

Rock Arena - The arena allows players to compete against all other members of their class.

Rock Festival - The Rock Festival games are open to players from around the world. The questions are selected at random from 2x2 to 12x12.

Rock Slam - The Rockslam game allow members of the school to choose another pupil and possibly a teacher to challenge.  The challenger has 1 minute to set a target for the challenge to beat.

When it comes to times tables bursts of daily practise are more effective than spending hours once a week, and this is where you come in!   For your child to be fully motivated and for them to get the best out of the practice, they need your help. Without your praise and your reminders, without you sitting down next to them or checking their work, practising times tables will not feel important to your child.  Please encourage your child to play the game at home regularly over the next few weeks to develop a regular habit that will assist their mathematics, just as daily reading helps propel their reading and writing.

Thank you for your support and I am looking forward to seeing our new Times Tables Rock Stars!
