ABC After School Provision

2022/2023

What we offer

‘After Bede Care’ (ABC) is open from 3.20pm - 6.00pm Monday to Thursday and from 3.20pm-5.00pm on a Friday. All sessions run during term time and serve children from St Bede C of E Primary School, where it is based. Children walk from their own classroom to Wolvesey Classroom at the end of the school day where a register is taken and children are given an opportunity to eat a snack and spend time relaxing with their friends.

Children then take part in two activities; completing home learning or revising key learning appropriate to their age group and a group sport session, promoting healthy living and teamwork. Activities are led by St Bede school staff, known to the children and familiar with the rules and expectations of the school. Our intention is that the activities on offer will help prepare our older pupils for secondary school where they will likely need to balance after school clubs and homework. Staff at school will help support home learning, providing additional teaching and challenge as required. A range of creative tasks will also be on offer for those who have completed home learning tasks, along with opportunities to use school reading materials and laptops.

We aim to provide a warm, supportive and enjoyable care package providing after school care for children at ABC. Children will be expected to follow the school rules of being safe, ready and respectful and to uphold our values of love, peace, courage, trust and friendship. These rules and values will also be followed and demonstrated by adults leading sessions. The school’s policies, including those for child protection, safeguarding and first aid, will underpin the work of After Bede Care and can be found on the school website.

Children can be collected from ABC at any point during the final hour of a session (between 5.00pm and 6.00pm Monday to Thursday and final half an hour between 4.30pm and 5.00pm on Friday)

Admission Policy and Procedures

ABC will accept children from Year 4 to Year 6. We can accept regular bookings and casual/ ad hoc bookings. Under this arrangement, the parent / guardian can email ABC@st-bede.hants.sch.uk  to request a ‘one-off’ place for a child, up until 24 hours before the required session. Provision will be based on availability and is not guaranteed.

For all ABC users, an Online Registration Form must be completed upon joining, and for each subsequent year at re-registration in June.  The form for throughout the year can be found on our school website at the following address:

Children can be booked into the club as either ‘regular’ or ‘ad-hoc’. ABC will operate a policy of admitting children in the following order of preference:

  1. Looked after children or children who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, residence, or special guardianship order. (as per LEA guidelines)
  2. Regular user (e.g. attends ARK/ABC already).
  3. Siblings of above.
  4. Existing ARK/ABC users changing days.
  5. New users.
  6. Chronological order of application (date registration form received at re-registration time/position on waiting list throughout the rest of the year).

Fees and charging

ABC is entirely self-funding; we aim to keep our fees to a minimum, whilst still raising enough income to cover our running costs.

Booking procedure

Parents must complete the necessary paperwork before a place at ABC can be taken up.

• Permanent place:

Once booked, if a child does not attend for any reason, you will still be charged for this place. If you wish to cancel the place altogether, one month’s notice in writing is required.

• Temporary booking:

We will accept temporary or occasional bookings as long as there are places available. Once a booking for a temporary place has been confirmed payment must be made in agreement with the school office. If a temporary place has been booked and is no longer required, the club must be given 24 hours notice. If notice is not given, the place will still be charged for.

Late collection and non-attendance charges

• There is a charge of £5 for each 10 minutes of late collection, which will be added automatically to the next invoice.

• Fees are charged for booked sessions whether the child attends or not.

Payment of fees

If fees are not paid, the ABC team will write to the parent or carer, requesting payment. If the parents or carers are having difficulty making the payment on time we recommend that they arrange a meeting with the manager as soon as possible.

Where there is no explanation for repeated late payment, ABC leaders will contact parents or carers to discuss payment options. A formal warning may be issued to the parent or carer informing them that continued late payment will result in their child’s place at the ABC being withdrawn. If fees remain unpaid after all the above options have been explored, the ABC may have to cancel the child’s place.
