St. Bede Travel to School Project Information

Travelling to St Bede C of E Primary School

We are keen to encourage families to walk, cycle, scooter or travel by bus to school to help reduce congestion and pollution.  We want to improve safety and help the environment.

We are excited to be involved in the national ModeShift STARS travel award scheme as we are committed to improving children’s health and wellbeing through active and sustainable travel.  The scheme recognises schools that have demonstrated excellence in growing levels of walking, wheeling and other forms of sustainable and active travel within their school community.

What do we want to achieve?

  • Encourage pupils, parents, guardians and staff to use environmentally friendly ways of travelling to school
  • Improve the health and wellbeing of pupils, parents and staff by encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle
  • Promote road safety awareness including pedestrian skills and cycle training
  • Improve the air quality around the school by reducing the amount of cars on the roads

Got to drive? PARK AND STRIDE!

We understand that not everyone is able to walk to school, so why not give ‘park and stride’ a go?

By parking a short distance away from the school gates and walking the rest of the journey, your family can still enjoy the benefits of an active commute while making school a safer place for all. You could even scoot from the boot – pack your child’s scooter into the boot and let them enjoy the fun of scooting the rest of the way to school. Please see the link to our Park and Stride Map below.

Areas to always avoid parking: Please DO NOT park outside the school gate. Never park on the zig zag markings, yellow lines, near junctions and driveways or reverse into spaces if you can’t see clearly behind you – there might be a very young cyclist or pedestrian there. Thank you for your support.
