Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs

Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs:

The key message that we have learnt about this value is that tolerance means that we get on with other people even though we don’t agree with them. We decided that being different to others is ok. The world is a very BIG place and there is a lot of space for people to have different ideas about religion, cultures, politics, music, and friends.

At St. Bede, we celebrate the different faiths and cultures and pupils really enjoy members of different faiths, religions and cultures sharing their knowledge with them. A particularly good example of this is the new links St. Bede has with the schools in the Shyogwe Diocese in Rwanda.

The impact that tolerance of different faiths and beliefs has on our children at St Bede:

Children at St. Bede are respectful to those who have different beliefs or lives to them. Children learn to discuss issues from different viewpoints and show empathy to challenge commonly held stereotypes of situation. Children at St. Bede appreciate the differences in other children’s cultures and individuals are always given opportunities to share knowledge and understanding. They understand when behaviour towards others is not acceptable, including any type of discrimination. Children know about famous examples of Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Florence Nightingale who had to show courage to challenge the discrimination that was shown towards them.
