Growing Together

Year 6 Journey Back to Ancient Greece

At the end of September, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed an exciting and immersive Ancient Greek Day, bringing their history learning vividly to life through a range of creative and interactive experiences.  The day began with a drama workshop entitled ‘War and Peace in Ancient Greece’, which encouraged the children to explore key aspects of Ancient Greek life and culture through performance and storytelling. Throughout the day, pupils participated in a variety of engaging workshops, including food tasting, mask making and collaborative group activities. Working together, the children planned and rehearsed different sections of a performance, developing their teamwork, creativity and communication skills along the way.

In the afternoon, all of the groups came together to showcase their learning in a final performance, sharing their work and celebrating everything they had discovered throughout the day.  It was wonderful to see the children's enthusiasm, smiles and excitement as they immersed themselves in learning in such a different and memorable way. The experience helped to deepen their understanding of Ancient Greece and will provide a valuable foundation for the history work they will continue to explore in class and across the wider curriculum.

To make the day even more special, pupils and staff embraced the occasion by arriving in a fantastic array of Ancient Greek costumes. From flowing tunics to laurel wreaths, the costumes added to the atmosphere and helped transport everyone back in time.  The children represented the school brilliantly throughout the day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, imagination and a genuine curiosity about the ancient world. We look forward to building on this exciting experience as our Year 6 pupils continue their Ancient Greece learning journey.
