  • Inspiring future footballers

    Fri 25 Nov 2022

St. Bede continues to develop its relationships with local clubs and teams. Today we were very fortunate to welcome Alice Griffiths, Southampton Ladies 1st team player, Wales International and professional footballer. Children from our different boys and girls football clubs, our class Sport reps and our Heads of Sport enjoyed a thought provoking Q and A session, allowing them to develop their understanding of what it takes to be a professional athlete.

The children asked many thoughtful, mature questions and were hopefully inspired by the experience. Thank you to Alice and to Southampton FC for visiting St Bede and inspiring us.

  • Ancient Egyptian Day in Year 5

    Fri 25 Nov 2022

This week the children in Year 5 have been learning about what life was like in Ancient Egyptian times.  To finish our Ancient Egyptian themed week, the children came dressed in some wonderful costumes for Ancient Egyptian day, made papyrus paper and wrote in hieroglyphics, baked Egyptian bread and learnt about the process of mummification.  Thank you for all of your support in helping the children to dress in the theme for our history day! We hope you enjoy tasting the bread which they thoroughly enjoyed making!

  • Year 5 and 6 visit Winchester College

    Fri 18 Nov 2022

This week the children in Years 5 and 6 visited Winchester College for a music concert.  They thoroughly enjoyed listening to the music of the Symphony Orchestra and finding out about the various instruments in the orchestra. The children were able to walk across to the college and behaved beautifully, staff proudly reported back on the number of positive comments that they received about how smart the children looked, how well they behaved and how good it was to see children out experiencing learning they would remember and enjoy.

  • Year 5 visit the Military Museum

    Fri 18 Nov 2022

This week the children in Year 5 visited the Military museums as part of their History learning about World War 1.  They enjoyed various different workshops learning about the uniform of the soldiers, the vital role that horses played and the history of Winchester as a military city.

The trip also included a visit to the Hampshire Regiment museum which linked to a research project which the children have been doing based on the soldiers who lived in the Hyde community.  They thoroughly enjoyed handling artefacts and trying on various different items of uniform and they were surprised to have so much history to explore so close to where they live!

  • Golden Mile Success

    Fri 11 Nov 2022

It was lovely to get out in fresh air for the Golden Mile this afternoon. The children seem to be so positive about running around the circuit - well done to all of our runners. Thank you again to those parents who have stepped forward to help supervise the course - we are so grateful for your support.

  • Year 3 Explorer Day

    Fri 04 Nov 2022

Well done to all of Year 3 pupils who have completed their “Take a Walk on the Wild Side” creative week.  It was great to see so many children dressed in their rainforest explorer costumes today and we have all enjoyed seeing the amazing work they have produced! Thank you to all the parents who created the amazing costumes worn today and to those who were able to come into school at the end of the day and see what learning has been taking place.

  • Ten Town Day in Year R

    Fri 04 Nov 2022

We were pleased to welcome the characters of Ten Town into school on Wednesday of this week.  Lots of Year R children and staff came to school dressed as either King One, Tommy Two, Thelma Three, Freddie Four, Fiona Five, Seal Six, Sir Seven, Eric Eight, Nina Nine or Tia Ten!  The children's learning tasks were all linked to Ten Town throughout the day.

Some of the tasks included making King One crowns, investigating ice balloons which had been left by Eric Eight, rolling and cutting jam tarts using playdough (thankfully Thelma Three didn't steal them!), constructing boats for Freddie Four, designing shields that Sir Seven had left out and making a Nina Nine tool belt.  The children were busy engaging in the tasks in both classrooms as well as exploring Ten Town tasks outside.  Lots of fun was had by everyone on this different kind of day!
