  • Walk to school- Walktober Challenge

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

We are taking part in Walktober this term! By travelling actively and/or sustainably throughout October, we can all get moving for our wellbeing, our community and our planet. We hope as many of our pupils and staff as possible can get involved by walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, using Park and Stride and public transport more often. As part of Walktober, our Junior Road Safety Officers from year 5 will be visiting classes to share their tips on road safety.

There is also a Walktober competition for your child to enter. Please find attached a Walktober Challenge Card, which sets four weekly challenges to try over the course of the month plus a bonus task for the final two days. The weekly challenges can be adapted if necessary, or your child may like to come up with their own ideas instead. Please see the parent and carer leaflet for more details, including how to submit your child’s competition entry, or visit myjourneyhampshire.com/walktober

  • Parent Meeting Bookings – Autumn Term 2023

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

We are using a hybrid approach to parent consultations again this term which means that you will have the opportunity to either book a face to face appointment where you will be able to come into school and meet your class teacher (between 3.30 and 5 p.m.) Alternatively, you can book a virtual session (from 5.30-6.30 p.m.) which will set up a virtual video link between yourself and the teacher.  Support guidance for using our parents booking system is available at:  https://www.stbedewinchester.co.uk/parent-online-booking-system/

The meetings are due to take place on two days (Tuesday 10th October and Thursday 12th October) and each session will keep to a strict ten minute time limit to ensure that all meetings booked can be completed during the evening.   If further time is needed to discuss issues, then parents will be able to make a further appointment with the teacher at a mutually convenient time.

The online booking facility is now open and please use the link: https://parents-booking.co.uk/stbede

  • Year 6 Little Canada Residential - September 2023

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

Many of our children in Year 6 have been making the most of a week away on a residential trip at Little Canada on the Isle of Wight. Reports back have suggested that they have been having an incredible time and the children have been fantastic ambassadors for our school. We were so happy to welcome them home tonight and feel sure there will be some long baths and sleepy children this evening.

A huge thank you to Mr Sherman, Mrs Gale, Mrs Read, Mrs Harris, Mr Hiscock and Mr Blackburn who accompanied the children and looked after them so well.

  • Band 1: Marvellous Maths Creative Week

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

This week, the children in years 1 and 2 have been enjoying a ‘Marvellous Maths’ week. They have been learning about how maths is all around us, every day, in lots of things that we do! We have enjoyed combining maths with some creative activities to show how lines, shapes and pattern play an important part in art and design, and have used problem solving and logic skills in order to crack codes and solve mysteries!

The children wrote some maths themed acrostic poems in English and enjoyed using some real-life maths in order to bake their own domino biscuit, which we hope they enjoy eating this evening! They read a book called ‘How Many Legs?’ and used this to create some very interesting calculations. They also used a book called ‘Inch by Inch’ to inspire some alternative measuring activities! Thank you so much to all the parents who were able to make a donation towards our enrichment activity, the children enjoyed the Lego challenge workshop, where they were tasked with making and designing a number of different vehicles and objects that help to connect all areas of the world.

Today, we were amazed at all the representations of number that we saw in the children’s dress up costumes, thank you so much for all the effort and imagination that went into them; we are so lucky to be working with such a supportive community! Our final thank you is to all the parents who were able to volunteer some of their time in order to pop in and read a maths themed story to the children. The children (and staff) have had a brilliant week!

  • Congratulations to all!

    Mon 25 Sep 2023

We have been spending time in the first few weeks setting expectations for the year ahead.  The children have started the school year very well.  We have been delighted to spend time in classes looking at how hard children are working in their lesson time and the positive behaviours being displayed.  Teachers work hard to make sure that appropriate strategies and resources are used to help engage and support each child in their learning and it was encouraging to see how responsive children are to the strategies being used.

A huge well done to our new Year R children who have made a fantastic start to their time in Butterfly and Ladybird Classes. It has been lovely to welcome them to St Bede and see them starting their learning journey here with us.

Please remember that our school day, as previously reported to you, begins promptly at 8.50am   Gates will be open for families to drop children off for five minutes prior to this.  Good attendance and punctuality help children settle happily and make best progress at school and we are very keen to promote this message, working with our families to ensure children are able to access all learning and socialisation opportunities on offer.
