  • Red Nose Day 2023

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

A bright, vibrant rainbow was sweeping around the school on Red Nose Day and what a fantastic sight it was.  The children also participated in activities from a specially selected list drawn up by our Year 6 Global Ambassadors.  Thank you for all the kind donations and we are pleased to say we have raised almost £400, so a big well done everyone!

  • Cross Country News

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

Well done to our Cross Country team who represented us at the recent Hampshire School Games Cross Country Event. A very strong team of our girls and boys took part in the tricky conditions and managed to achieve incredible results.  All the children raced against the top 150 runners from across the county.  Here are some of their thoughts from the event.

“The run was hard and painful but the end feeling was great!” “The race was a challenge, testing our ability and stamina.  The final score for me was 9th place.” “We ran 1.8km and when we finished I couldn’t feel my fingers or toes.  Everybody did incredibly well!”

“I think everybody was nervous on the run-up to the race.  The worst bit was the start as it was like running through a brick wall.

  • Global Ambassadors – Recycling Crisp Packets Project

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

This term, our Year 1 and Year 2 Global Ambassadors have been busy helping Mr Metcalfe package up more recycled crisp packets.  Each global ambassador worked very hard and after completing a few calculations, we believe that we have successfully packaged up another 207 crisp packets.  These can now be sent off for recycling and will not end up at a landfill site.  Thank you to everyone who has helped our campaign so far and together we need to keep up the good work!

The Global Ambassadors would like to remind everyone that it is much more helpful if you make sure that you place a flat crisp packet in the recycling bin rather than a scrunched up one!

  • Eco News

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

Well done to our Heads of Eco who spoke with confidence, knowledge and passion as they led Band Worships at the school.  As a school, we have three areas we are aiming to improve this year.  Our first area is biodiversity.  We will be creating a pollinator friendly flower bed for both insects and children to enjoy.  We would also like to increase different habitat areas within the school such as rock piles and log piles. Our second area is to monitor and reduce the school's energy usage.  We will carry out an energy audit each term with the class eco reps acting as class energy monitors.  Our third area is marine.  We will continue with weekly litter picking to ensure litter doesn't blow into our school stream and we will also investigate single use plastics.

  • DT in Year 1

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

In Year 1 this term the children have been learning about and constructing windmills in their DT lessons.  They have learned about the different parts of a windmill: the structure, axel and turbines.  They then used their understanding to design and make a windmill suitable for a mouse to live in.

They worked hard to carefully construct their windmills to ensure that the turbine moved.  In the afternoons, the children took their windmills outside to test if they worked. It was great fun working out what made the windmill move faster! Well done Year 1 for your fantastic perseverance with the project.

  • Winchester Cathedral Concert

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

This term, all of Year 4 went to Winchester cathedral, joined by lots of other local schools, to participate in a St David's Day concert. They performed a variety of songs which they had been learning weekly in music workshops run by the Cathedral organist. It was so lovely to see all their hard work pay off as they performed confidently to a large audience. Well done everyone!

  • Year 4 transforms into a fish-canning factory!

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

This term, the children in year 4 experienced what life would be like for the main character (Stan) in our book study, The Boy Who Swam With Piranhas.  The classrooms were transformed into fish-canning factories and the children were put to work preparing some delicious ‘fish gut stew’.

With the company motto “Work harder, work faster, work longer”, the children showed fantastic perseverance, but quickly learned that life for Stan would be tiring and arduous! After their ordeal, they will now use their first-hand experience to write persuasive letters to instruct the factory owners to close their business once and for all!

  • Year 4 – Viking Day

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

To hook the children into their Vikings topic, Year 4 held their very own Viking day this term. The children all came to school in their best historical costumes (thank you for the amazing effort that families put into these) and were visited be a ‘real life’ Viking. He taught them where the Vikings came from, what they were like and what the Britons thought of them. They handled some amazing Viking artefacts, practised some battle skills and even attended a Viking funeral. The children are now excited to carry on our learning and to explore their key question: Vikings – Raiders or Traders? Thank you to the HSA whose generation fund raising and donation meant that the day could go ahead with no costs falling to families.

  • Pancake Race News 2023

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

We were delighted to be invited to enter a team in a fun venture organised by the Winchester Rotary Club and Winchester Cathedral.  Our school team, comprising of our Heads of Sport, took part in a relay race flipping pancakes and competing for the fastest time against teams from the Army, Ex-Winchester Mayors, Pilgrims School and a number of other local organisations.  We tried our hardest but just missed out on a place in the final by a few seconds!  Everyone had a great time and all of our Heads of Sport displayed the school values throughout the event and we even made an appeared on BBC South News!

  • Year 6- Pizza Making

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

To celebrate World Pizza Day (and apply their DT skills!) Year 6 spent the day mixing, shaping, kneading and creating a wonderful array of tasty and healthy pizzas. Year 6 spent the morning before break weighing out their ingredients and then shaping and kneading their dough into pizza shapes and topping them with lots of healthy vegetables. They then evaluated their designs and most importantly, taste tested their creations!
