  • Black History Month – October 2023

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

October is Black History Month in the UK and across the school we have been taking the opportunity to celebrate the achievements and contributions black people have made to our society.  This year, Black History Month was dedicated to honouring the achievements of black women (Salute our Sisters) who are often the forgotten heroines. We wanted to amplify their voices and challenge the systems that oppress them.

Children have been set the challenge through their google classroom page to complete their own research into an inspiring black British woman and we will be collating these into a whole-school book.  Alongside this, each year group has been looking at the work of a specific artist and we look forward to sharing some of what we have learned at our harvest celebrations. We work hard to promote diversity widely across the school and across the year.

We are always keen to explore how we share the message and show through our actions that everyone is welcome and valued at St Bede.

  • Christmas Shoebox Project 2023

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

A huge thank you for all of the generous donations sent in today for the Christmas shoe box project. The Winchester Rotary have collected over 135 amazing boxes which will be sent to children who may not otherwise receive presents this year, what a special thing to have done, thank you again.

This project has been a fantastic way to help children see the role they can play showing kindness to others both closer to home and further away.

  • Harvest Festival 2023

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

It was very special to see so many families at Holy Trinity Church this term for our Harvest Celebrations.  We were very proud of the children who sang and danced beautifully and spoke so clearly - Well done to everyone!  Thank you to Holy Trinity Church for allowing us to gather in their church.

We would also like to say thank you again to everyone who brought in Harvest gifts.  These will be donated to Unit 12 Community food pantry and our global ambassadors will be finding out more about the work of the community food pantry later in the term.  Finally we would like to thank the HSA who ran a wonderful cake sale and coffee morning, providing a very positive opportunity for our parent community to come together socially and to raise additional funds for the school.

  • Parent Consultations

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

Thank you to everyone who has completed their parent consultations this term, either face to face in school or virtually.  We hope that the meetings provided an opportunity to meet with teachers and find out further information about your child, personally, socially and academically.

  • Table Tennis Success

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

St. Bede travelled to Kings School in October to play in the Winchester Schools Table Tennis Tournament. Both our boys and girls teams played against St. Francis, who had won last year’s tournament and who had placed 3rd in the County Championships. All of our players gave a fantastic account of themselves, playing some very high quality table tennis across their 8 matches.  The boys team manages to overcome St Francis and booked their place into the County championship in December.

The girls’ team went down fighting, winning 2/4 of their matches. In the end, it was one other-worldly player that turned the tide towards St Francis. Our team showed fantastic sporting behaviour and togetherness and can be very proud of themselves. We wish St Francis Girls and our St Bede Boys the very best in the next round.

  • Ancient Egyptian Day 2023 in Year 5

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

Earlier this half term, the children in Year 5 have been learning about what life was like in Ancient Egyptian times.  To finish their Ancient Egyptian themed week, the children came dressed in some wonderful costumes for Ancient Egyptian day, baked Egyptian bread and learnt about the process of mummification.  Thank you for all of your support in helping the children to dress in the theme for their history day! We hope you enjoyed tasting the bread which they thoroughly enjoyed making!

  • Ancient Greek Day 2023 Year 6

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

Earlier this half term, all of our Year 6 pupils took part in a Greek day which included a drama workshop entitled ‘War and Peace in Ancient Greece.’  Throughout the day there were different workshops that involved every child, these included; food tasting and mask making alongside small groups working together to produce sections for the afternoon performance.  In the afternoon the children all came together to create a performance which they shared with each other as a group.

It was great to see all of the smiles on their faces and to listen to the excitement of them learning in a different way.  The children appeared to really enjoy the day which brought to life the Ancient Greece topic and will support the work that they will be covering in their topic lessons and across the curriculum. To make the day feel authentic and special, it was also great to see our Year 6 pupils and teachers in their Greek costumes!

  • Pupil Responsibility Roles

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

It is always a real privilege and joy to listen to election speeches for positions of responsibility made by many of our Year 6 pupils.  These speeches always make us incredibly proud; hearing the children speak so confidently about an area of interest and wanting to give something back to our school community is a joy.

Earlier this term, we announced all the responsibility posts for the academic year and look forward to highlighting the different responsibility groups in the second half of the autumn term.  Thank you to everyone who has put themselves forward and congratulations to those who have been voted in to a role for this year.
