  • A big thank you from everyone at the school!

    Fri 22 Dec 2023

We would like to thank you all for your engagement and support this term, we are incredibly grateful for the close links we have with our community and continue to reflect on our practice, looking for ways to make children’s time at St Bede as happy, successful and memorable as we can.

We look forward to sharing more St Bede news and happenings with you next year.

  • St. Bede Kindness Project – Unit 12 Reverse Advent Calendar 2023

    Fri 22 Dec 2023

Thank you to everyone who has been able to contribute to our ‘reverse advent calendar’ project which help support The Unit 12 Community Food Pantry in Winchester.  The items that we have been able to collect will be making a real difference to the lives of many children within our area and spreading kindness across the Winchester community.

  • Sporting News - Table tennis success

    Fri 22 Dec 2023

Our St Bede Table Tennis Team were invited to represent Winchester and Eastleigh in the Hampshire Schools Table Tennis Tournament in Basingstoke.  Eight schools had qualified, including St Johns, the winners of the tournament for the last few years and one of the top table tennis teams in the country.  St Johns were our first opponents and they proved to be a class act.  Their team of four were all very experienced players and their Number 1 was ranked in the top 10 nationally.  They were too good, but we hung in there, playing fantastic points and, despite the loss, team morale remained high.

We bounced back in the next few matches, qualifying in the top two of our group and making the semi-final. Unfortunately, we lost a very competitive encounter against Orchard Junior by a few points.  We faced Springhill in the 3rd / 4th playoff.  The players produced some of their best table tennis in another highly competitive encounter.  When the matches had all finished, we had won 2 and lost 2. We had won the same number of games as well so we had to go back to individual points scored to work out final places.  On countback, we scored 105 to 101, taking the final spot on the podium and claiming third best team in Hampshire.

A huge well done to the team who gave up lunch times, organised training sessions, qualified as the best team in Winchester and never gave up.  Congratulations, your efforts have made everyone proud!

  • St Bede’s Strictly Got Talent X Factor Competition 2023

    Fri 22 Dec 2023

A popular St Bede tradition is our Christmas talent show, which took place in the school hall.  Auditions completed, our finalists included musical performances, gymnastic and dance displays, magic and poetry. We were joined by celebrity judges, Taylor Swift, Barbie and Shirley Ballas who were incredibly impressed by the levels of talent on display, including a return performance from last year’s champion, Lizzie.

The judges awarded third prize to magicians Joseph and Isaac, second place to dancer Ellie and first place to pianist Stella, although making those decisions were not easy!  Congratulations and thanks to all of our finalists and to everyone who auditioned as part of the process.

  • Band 3 Nativity – Bells Ring Out

    Fri 22 Dec 2023

A huge well done to the children of Band 3 (Year 5 and 6) who performed their nativity ‘Bells Ring Out’ in the beautiful setting of St Bartholomew’s Church at the end of term.  The children spoke and sang with confidence and maturity in what, for many of our Year 6’s, will be their final nativity performance.  Well done to all involved and thank you to Reverend Karen and all at St Bartholomew’s for welcoming us so warmly!

  • Lights, Camel, Action!

    Tue 12 Dec 2023

Well done to all of our Band 2 (Year 3 and Year 4) pupils for their fab-u-lous Christmas celebrations performed this week here at school.  It was wonderful to see every single pupil truly sparkling in the lights and action as they took part in the glitz, glamour and razzamatazz of the amazing dance routines and wonderful songs.  As a less traditional nativity, this was one is definitely one that will stay in the memory banks for a very long time!  The confidence, teamwork and enthusiasm that radiated from the children was a joy to see and worthy of real congratulations!

  • Born in a Barn

    Tue 12 Dec 2023

A very big ‘well done’ to all involved in the Band 1 (Year 1 and Year 2) performances of ‘Born in a Barn’ which have been shared with parents, grandparents and families on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th December.

Congratulations to the entire cast for their excellent acting, dancing and singing as everyone who came to watch the performances were extremely proud and impressed with your skills and also had great big smiles on their faces! We all really enjoyed a traditional re-telling of the story of the birth of Jesus- thank you Years 1 and 2!

  • Shine Star, Shine!

    Tue 12 Dec 2023

On Monday 4th December, our youngest pupils in Year R performed their Christmas Nativity play “Shine Star, Shine!”  The performance was a lovely, heart-warming occasion with all the children singing and dancing– well done everyone!  The play also reminded those attending of the reason why Christmas is celebrated and we had the opportunity to reflect on this special time of year.  Thank you to all parents who produced such lovely costumes – the children looked fabulous.

  • HSA Christmas Fayre 2023

    Tue 12 Dec 2023

It was lovely to see so many of our current and past pupils and families at our Christmas Fayre on Friday 24th November.  We have always felt very fortunate as a school to be part of such an engaged and supported community and a big thank you to everyone who volunteered their time preparing the event, setting up stalls, creating the stunning grotto and tidying up afterwards.

This event always helps to raise much-needed funds to support enrichment opportunities and other projects across the school that benefit the children of St Bede and we look forward to sharing with you the final amounts raised once all the donations have been totalled!

  • Equality and Rights Advocates (EARA) Group News

    Tue 12 Dec 2023

In late November, we were very excited to take some of our pupils to their first EARA meeting at All Saints School with Mr Metcalfe and Miss Lijka.  The Equality and Rights Advocates (EARA) are a group of pupils at our school who work collaboratively to promote equality and children’s rights across the school. At the meeting, our St Bede representatives met fellow EARAs members from other schools across Winchester and Eastleigh, before taking part in a series of thought-provoking exercises designed to promote conversations around fairness and respect.

It was lovely to see all of the children discussing these tough but important issues with their local peers and devising ways in which they can begin to make meaningful changes in their own communities. The St Bede representatives will now spend time conducting pupil voice surveys across the school, listening to the opinions and thoughts of their classmates before collating their ideas and presenting them at the next EARAs meeting.
