  • Year 3 Trip to Marwell

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

In late November, our Year 3 pupils travelled to Marwell Zoo.  The children had a fantastic time; they loved seeing all the animals and finding out facts about the different species. As they walked through the Tropical House, the children discovered what it would be like to be in a rainforest biome - seeing for themselves the plant life, variety of bird life and tropical fish species as well as the infamous two-toed sloth!  The children upheld all our school values and were inspired, by the visit, to learn and find out more about the rainforest.

  • Learning more about Volcanoes in Year 4

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

In November, Year 4 enjoyed a special Geography talk from Mr. Trueman, a Professor and Geologist, who came in to tell the children all about volcanoes. The children were able to hold pieces of lava from volcanoes around the world, as well as seeing rare rock samples from the Earth’s mantle and core.  They explored how different types of lava affect a volcano’s shape and watched an experiment involving chocolate! Thank you Mr Trueman for coming to visit and providing the children with such a wonderful experience!

  • Year 5 Visit to the Military Museum

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

In late November, our Year 5 pupils visited the Military museums as part of their History learning about World War 1.  They enjoyed various different workshops learning about the uniform of the soldiers, the vital role that horses played and the history of Winchester as a military city.  The trip also included a visit to the Hampshire Regiment museum which linked to a research project which the children have been doing based on the soldiers who lived in the Hyde community.  They were all fascinated to see some artefacts related to the very soldiers we have been researching and that even lived in the same houses as some of us!

  • World Kindness Day 2023

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

On Monday 13th November, the whole school celebrated World Kindness Day and took part in a live assembly with many other schools from across the country.  The assembly was led by Greig from the School of Kindness.  The children thought about what kindness means and why it is important in their lives and the lives of others.  Following this, each class has created their own Kindness Pledge, which is proudly displayed on the doors of each classroom and have also created kindness cards to identify someone who has shown kindness to them.

  • Children in Need 2023

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

Thank you to everyone for joining in and supporting Children in Need on Friday 15th November.  We collected a fantastic £470 on the day.  During the afternoon, it was lovely to get out in fresh air for the special Golden Mile. The children seemed to be so positive about running around the circuit - well done to all of our runners. Thank you again to those parents who have stepped forward to help supervise the course - we are so grateful for your support.

  • Anti Bullying Week 2023

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

During the week beginning the 13th November, we marked anti-bullying week and were busy thinking about our school expectation of being respectful and our values of love and friendship. We believe that it is as important to celebrate what makes us different or even unique alongside celebrating the experiences and characteristics we share.  On Monday 13th November, we enjoyed the novelty of wearing odd socks to school. It was good to stand together to say difference is good.  Our hope is that we can all be proud of who we are in life and that everyone knows that they are welcome and valued at St Bede.

  • The Festival of Diwali – November 2023

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

On the 10th November, Mrs Pathak (LSA in Year 1) told us about the festival of Diwali and the traditions behind each day of the festival.  At St Bede, we really enjoy finding out about traditions and beliefs associated with world faiths and hope that by developing our understanding of them, we will help to create a better informed and more understanding society for the years ahead.  Happy Diwali to everyone across our community who will be celebrating the festival.

  • Your Time to Shine November 2023

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

On the 10th November, we were proud to promote the importance of wearing bright, shiny or reflective clothing to be clearly visible when out and about, especially as the nights get darker.  Our junior road safety officers spoke to everyone in assembly about how to keep safe when on or near roads. Thank you to them for sharing these important messages with such confidence and clarity.
