  • Christmas Shoe box collection

    Fri 21 Oct 2022

A huge thank you for all of the generous donations sent in today for the Christmas shoe box project. Our School councillors helped members of Winchester Rotary to collect over 50 amazing boxes which will be sent to children who may not otherwise receive presents this year, what a special thing to have done, thank you again.

This project has been a fantastic way to help children see the role they can play showing kindness to others both closer to home and further away.

  • Harvest Festival Thanks!

    Fri 21 Oct 2022

It was lovely to see so many families at Holy Trinity Church this week for our Harvest Celebrations. We were very proud of the children who sang and danced beautifully and spoke so clearly - Well done to everyone! Thank you to Holy Trinity Church for allowing us to gather in their church.  We would also like to say thank you again to everyone who brought in Harvest gifts. These were gratefully received by the Unit 12 Community food pantry on Thursday and our global ambassadors are looking forward to finding out more about the work of the community food pantry later in the term.

  • NSPCC – Speak Out. Stay safe Assemblies and Workshops

    Fri 14 Oct 2022

As you know, the NSPCC visited our school this week and delivered their Speak out. Stay safe workshops to Year 5 and Year 6 to share information with your child about how they can keep themselves safe from harm and get help if they have any worries.  It was a very worthwhile and empowering session for both pupils and teachers.  They spoke to the children and staff about the valuable work they do across the country, and talked about how important it is for everyone in our school community to join them in their ‘fight for every childhood’.

  • Black History Month

    Fri 07 Oct 2022

October is Black History Month in the UK and across the school we are taking the opportunity to celebrate the achievements and contributions black people have made to our society. We work hard to promote diversity widely across the school and across the year. We are always keen to explore how we share the message and show through our actions that everyone is welcome and valued at St Bede.

  • In Year 4, geology rocks!

    Fri 30 Sep 2022

On Tuesday, Year 4 were fortunate enough to be visited by Mr Trueman – a parent in year 4 and a geologist. He helped them with their geography learning by showing them different types of volcanoes and explaining how they were formed. The children were fascinated to see and handle different rock and lava samples and even enjoyed a delicious chocolate experiment which explored the layers of the Earth. We are so grateful to Mr Trueman for giving up his time to talk to us and were very impressed with how engaged the children were and by the questions that they asked. If you have specialist knowledge that could benefit the children at St Bede and would be willing to visit us in school, please do get in touch. We appreciate your continued support.

  • Bank Holiday Announcement Information – Monday 19th September

    Mon 12 Sep 2022

Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace of the death of our sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a period of National Mourning has started and will continue until the end of the State Funeral. This is a period of time for reflection in response to the death of the Sovereign.

The official date of the State Funeral is 19th September 2022. This day will be a bank holiday and settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day as a mark of respect. This will include schools and colleges.

We wanted to make clear to our families, following the above communication from the Department for Education, that St Bede will be closed on 19th September 2022. This will enable staff, pupils and families to reflect on the life of service of Queen Elizabeth II and to observe the State Funeral taking Place on that day. As a school community we are grateful for the example the Queen set us all and send our condolences to all who mourn her passing.

  • Volunteers in school

    Fri 09 Sep 2022

Moving beyond the years of Covid restrictions, we would be very grateful for any offers of support to hear readers across the school in the afternoons or to help in the hall at lunchtimes, encouraging children to eat their meals and helping clear tables between sittings. If you would like to put your name forward to volunteer, please email the school office at stbedeoffice@st-bede.hants.sch.uk detailing when you would be available to volunteer your time and which role(s) you would be interested in. Thank you!

  • Ancient Greek Day 2022 - Year 6

    Fri 09 Sep 2022

On Thursday of this week, all of our Year 6 pupils took part in a Greek day which included a drama workshop entitled ‘War and Peace in Ancient Greece.’  Throughout the day there were different workshops that involved every child, these included; food tasting and mask making alongside small groups working together to produce sections for the afternoon performance.  In the afternoon, the children all came together to create a performance which they shared with each other as a group.

It was great to see all of the smiles on their faces and to listen to the excitement of them learning in a different way.  The children appeared to really enjoy the day which brought to life the Ancient Greece topic and will support the work that they will be covering in their topic lessons and across the curriculum. To make the day feel authentic and special, it was also great to see our Year 6 pupils and teachers in their Greek costumes!
