    Fri 30 May 2025

Well done to all the Year 6 children who have worked as a team to ensure that the Metcalfe Mail delivery service for Christmas Cards across the school has run smoothly and effectively this year.

Thank you to everyone for ensuring that the envelopes were clearly labelled as this made a big difference to the speed at which the post could be sorted and delivered!

  • St Bede’s Strictly Got Talent X-Factor Competition

    Fri 30 May 2025

A hugely popular St. Bede tradition is our Christmas talent show, which took place on Thursday 19th December in the school hall. Auditions completed, our finalists included musical performances, gymnastic and dance displays, magic and poetry.

We were joined by celebrity judges Taylor Swift, Elton John and Shirley Ballas who were incredibly impressed by the levels of talent on display. The judges awarded third prize to band performers, Huey, Remy, Max and Natty, second place to singers, Sophie and Lilly and first place to pianist, Ben, although making those decisions were not easy! Congratulations and thanks to all of our finalists and to everyone who auditioned as part of the process.

  • Band 3 Nativity – One Bright Star

    Fri 30 May 2025

A huge well done to the children of Band 3 (Year 5 and 6) who performed their nativity ‘One Bright Star’ in the beautiful setting of St Bartholomew’s Church in the final week of the Christmas term. The children spoke and sang with confidence and maturity in what, for many of our Year 6’s, will be their final nativity performance.

I am lucky to have seen most of the children performing in their nativity plays from Year R and watching how they grow in confidence and stature is a very special part of the job, well done to all involved and thank you to Reverend Karen and all at St Bartholomew’s for welcoming us so warmly.

  • Band 2 Nativity – Babushka

    Fri 30 May 2025

Well done to all of our Band 2 (Year 3 and Year 4) pupils for their amazing Christmas performance of Babushka, which was performed at Holy Trinity Church on Thursday 12th December and Friday 13th December. The confidence, teamwork and enthusiasm that radiated from the children was a joy to see and worthy of real congratulations!

The story of Babushka reminds us of the value of finding time to do things that might seems scary or overwhelming and which can become overlooked in the busy-ness of life, but hold opportunities for joy. Well done to all involved and thank you to Father Jamie and all at Holy Trinity Church for welcoming us so warmly.

  • Band 1 Nativity – Prickly Hay!

    Fri 30 May 2025

A very big ‘well done’ to all involved in the Band 1 (Year 1 and Year 2) performances of ‘Prickly Hay’ which have been shared with parents, grandparents and families on Tuesday 10th December and Wednesday 11th December.  Congratulations to all of the cast for their excellent acting, dancing and singing, everyone who came to watch the performances were extremely proud and impressed with your skills and also had great big smiles on their faces!

The message in the song ‘If you think you’re not important for the little things you do’ was one many people have commented on, and makes us grateful for the opportunity to reflect on our own lives and actions. We all really enjoyed a traditional re-telling of the story of the birth of Jesus- thank you Years 1 and 2 for such wonderful moments!

  • St. Bede Choir Carol Singing in the Brooks Centre

    Fri 30 May 2025

On Tuesday 3rd December, our school choir were invited to sing carols in the Brooks Centre. Everyone who attended did a brilliant job and helped to spread Christmas magic across the community. We were delighted to receive the following message from a Winchester resident who just happened to be in the Brooks Shopping Centre when we were singing.

“I just want to thank the choir and their lovely teacher for making my day today. I popped into The Brooks to pick up a parcel and was brought to tears with the lovely sound coming from the children. I am feeling much better now than I did before. Thank you all.”

  • Year R – Christmas Performance News

    Fri 30 May 2025

Christmas officially started at St. Bede on Friday 6th December as our youngest pupils in Year R performed their Christmas Nativity play “It’s a Baby!” The performance was a lovely, heart-warming occasion with our Ladybird and Butterfly children singing and dancing – well done everyone!

The play also reminded those attending of the reason why Christmas is celebrated and we had the opportunity to reflect on this special time of year. Thank you to all parents who produced such lovely costumes – the children looked fabulous!

  • Year 5 visit the Military Museum

    Fri 30 May 2025

To enhance their History learning experiences, the children in Year 5 visited the Military museums in the last week of November as part of their History learning about World War 1. They enjoyed various different workshops learning about the role of Gurkha soldiers, the different uniforms worn by the British Army throughout history, how horses were bought and used in World War 1 and about the Hampshire Regiment and the role they played. The children loved trying on different uniforms and participating in a re-enactment of how Gurkha soldiers came to join the British Army.

  • CBeebies – The Ridiculous Rhyme Show visits St. Bede

    Fri 30 May 2025

We had a very special visit at the end of November from CBeebies television ‘The Ridiculous Rhyme Show.’ Joe and Andy who entertained the whole school by providing two workshops – The Ridiculous Rhyme Show and TV. Workshop. We had wanted to arrange a special event to mark our recent Ofsted inspection report that would show the children how proud we were of their achievements.

Both performances had so much energy and all the children had lots of fun and it was great to hear the laughter and cheering flowing from the hall. We all loved having them here for the afternoon and give the greatest thanks to the HSA who funded this fun and memorable event!
