• Phonics information

  It was lovely to see lots of parents at school on Wednesday 23^rd April to find out more about our approach to teaching phonics and to hear about how children are assessed in this area. Thank you to Miss Maguire, who led the meeting, to Miss Mayer and Mrs Quincey who answered questions and to all the parents who attended.

• St. Bede Easter Egg Decorating Competition

  We were amazed - and egg-stremely impressed - by the beautiful entries for our annual creative competition. It has been suggested to me that judging was harder- and closer- than ever! Everyone who entered the competition received a chocolate egg.

• Easter Celebration Services- Years 1 to 6

  The spring term, closed with our Easter services for Years 1 to 6 which took place at Holy Trinity Church. The children read, sang and danced brilliantly and it was lovely to showcase their talents, hard work and positive attitudes. We hope you enjoyed the events if you were able to attend. Thank you to Father Jamie for enabling us to meet together at Holy Trinity.

• Easter Celebration – Year R News

  On Tuesday 1^st April, we held our first Easter celebration with children from Ladybird and Butterfly classes sharing poems, songs and some beautiful seasonal art work with a gathered audience. Well done to all of the children involved. On a beautiful spring morning, you started our day off in a very happy and special way!

• Year 3 Butser Farm Visit

  On Friday 28^th March, Year 3 went on a trip to Butser Ancient Farm to link to their learning about Stone Age to Iron Age. They learnt how to spin yarn from wool, light a fire with wood and flint, and carve pictures in chalk. Additionally, the children had the opportunity to become archaeologists and dig to find treasures from the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages!

   

  The children were fantastic and the staff at Butser were very impressed by the amount of knowledge they were able to share about the topic. Well done everyone!

• Neurodiversity Celebration Week

  Throughout the week (17^th to 21st March), we have been marking neurodiversity celebration week, celebrating the uniqueness that makes each of us valued and special and helping children to understand some of our differences as well.

• Comic Relief – March 2025

  A bright, vibrant rainbow of happy colours have been on show on Friday 21^st March and what a fantastic sight it has been. There have been lots of lessons across the school learning about the work of the charity and what moneys raised go towards. 

   

  Thank you for all the kind donations today and we are pleased to say we have raised over £660, so a big well done everyone!

• Drama Experiences in Year R and Year 1

  The children in Year R and Year One were very pleased to receive a visit from Perform on Tuesday 11th March. Led by Jack, each class had a wonderful time exploring the theme of ‘Under the Sea’ using drama and singing. Jack led the children to the lost pearl whilst 'deep sea diving' their way through an imaginative and interactive adventure story! There was great excitement and fantastic engagement- well done to all involved.

   

  Perform run weekly classes at Holy Trinity Church Hall and offer an introductory discount to all parents of children at St. Bede.

• Winchester Pancake Race 2025

  We were delighted to, once again, be invited to enter a team in the Winchester Pancake Race organised by the Winchester Rotary Club and Winchester Cathedral.  On Tuesday 4^th March, our school team – The St. Bede Flippers, comprising of our Heads of Sport, took part in a relay race flipping pancakes.

   

  We managed to complete our race in a very quick time of 47.7 seconds but we were unfortunately just a few seconds behind the winners in our section of the draw. Well done to all children involved in representing the school, you behaved beautifully and balanced your competitive spirits with showing the values of the school. • Book Week 2025

  To start the month of March, we have really enjoyed celebrating Book Week and have taken part in a range of activities to promote a love of reading. These have included a whole school class story time where different adults from across the school have shared stories with children and dressing up as book characters.

   

  It was so amazing to see so many of you on the playgrounds supporting the children taking part in our Book Character parade, thank you to those who were able to join us and to everyone who supported their child(ren) in choosing and preparing the incredible costumes! We would also like to give a special well done to all of our wonderful librarians who led the parade for each year group in the school. Thank you for your patience and understanding that we needed to keep gates locked until the parade had finished to ensure the safety of all children on the site.
